For the woman considering alcohol to destress from election anxiety...

True story. I had a client who drank to numb out the news. It was mainly politics that got her really riled up. Her solution to righting the wrong decisions made in Washington was to sit on her back porch and numb out with a bottle of wine. While continuing to scroll through the news.

Her anxiety was through the roof.
Drinking was like pouring gasoline on the fire.

Numbing or destressing with alcohol because you’re nervous about how this election is going to turn out is only going to make you feel worse.

Your sleep will be wrecked. Your cortisol and adrenaline levels will skyrocket, and you’re going to spend the rest of the week more exhausted and stressed than when you started.

Can I encourage you today, my friend?

Day 27 of Love Life Sober is all about anxiety. In it, I’ve written:

“We are fighting a battle in our minds, whether we’re clouding it with alcohol or not. The Enemy is there, planning
and planting those negative thoughts day in and day out, hoping we grab onto them and spiral into anxiety. But we have the ability to check our anxious thoughts against the truth. The truth is that God is in control, and we are not. He knows the number of hairs on our heads and always knows His plans for us.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Hang on to these truths in the following days, my friend:

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6

God already knows how this election is going to turn out, and either way, you are not alone; your soul is safe, and you are so loved.
